Girls’ cricket a big hit

THE sound of leather on willow was echoing around Swan Hill last Sunday, as girls from around the Wimmera Mallee came to town for round three of the Wimmera Girls Cricket League.

With 45 girls from six teams all taking part, the day was a huge success, with girls cricket taking yet another giant stride forward in the region.

Our very own Murray Downs Diamonds won their second game of the season, coming away with a dominant 68-run victory.

Heidi Schnieder showed her all round ability, top scoring with 29 not out with the bat – and then following that up with one for three from her two overs.

Mia Hansen was another solid performer for the Diamonds, scoring 19 not out, while Lily Scott and Marli Doyle led the way with the ball with two wickets each.

This Sunday, the competition moves onto Dimboola, where the Murray Downs Diamonds will face off against the Wimmera Roos at the Dimboola Recreation Reserve on Oval 1, from 9.30am.
