MAARI Ma Health in Balranald marked White Ribbon Day last Friday with a special day of pampering for local women, followed by a night march through the streets.
Free haircuts, massages and manicures were part of the day of remembrance, with activities to raise awareness and speak out against gendered violence.
The day brought together the Balranald community including domestic violence survivors, families of women who have been killed, and law enforcement.
Holistic therapist Annabelle Sharman said she was honoured to be one of the guest speakers at the event.
“White Ribbon Australia’s campaign is to stop men’s violence against women, an issue I am very passionate about and (which) drives my purpose and healing work and guides me to create safe spaces and circles for our women,” Ms Sharman posted online.
“For all the women lost to violence I honour your spirit and mostly today I honour and remember my sister Emily.”
The Barrier Police said they were also proud to join the community for the annual White Ribbon March.
“It was great to see so many community members coming together to talk about domestic violence awareness and prevention as well as finding out about local support services,” a spokesperson said.
“Police continue to work with a range of agencies to provide the best support for victims.”
White Ribbon Day is held on the last Friday before November 25 every year in Australia.
Globally, November 25 is the UN’s International Day for the Elimination of Men’s Violence against Women, which is the largest violence against women campaign and kicks off the 16 days of activism against gender-based violence and runs until December 10, Human Rights Day.
