A FUNDRAISER has been held by Inner Wheel Swan Hill Club in support of cord blood research.
More than 300 community members visited The Grain Shed for the event, Up The Garden Path, on Saturday, June 28.
The day featured more than 25 market stalls showcasing local businesses, creative talent and delicious treats.
Eight generously donated prizes were raffled off, including artwork by local artist Raelene Richardson.
Inner Wheel secretary Lyn Ward said the event exceeded expectations.
“It was a great atmosphere,” she said.
The weather was beautiful, and The Grain Shed created a lovely space for people to mingle and enjoy the day.”
Ms Ward credited the event’s success to the stallholders and the strong turnout.
“We were just blown away by the crowd,” she said.
“People were constantly coming in.
“We raised $3500, the event was a great success.”
Each year, the Inner Wheel Swan Hill Club chooses a cause to support through its annual fundraiser.
“Our last fundraiser was for the MRI machine,” Ms Ward said.
“This one is in support of cord blood research.
All funds raised by Inner Wheel Swan Hill Club go directly towards grants for medically approved research focusing on stem cell therapies derived from cord blood.
“These researchers are doing critical work, using stem cells from cord blood to find treatments, and potentially cures, for conditions like leukaemia, Parkinson’s, cerebral palsy, cystic fibrosis and many others,” Ms Ward said.
“It’s research that could potentially give people a second chance at life.”
Cord blood is rich in powerful stem cells capable of regenerating blood and immune systems.
Ongoing research into its use is providing hope for many families affected worldwide.
Ms Ward expressed her appreciation to all involved in the day.
“We would like to sincerely thank everyone for their support,” she said.
“We’d like to thank Francis Florist for the beautiful table arrangements, and the Swan Hill Rural City Council for their ongoing support.”
She also acknowledged the staff at The Grain Shed.
“We’re very fortunate to have access to such a fantastic venue,” she said.
“We’re grateful to the team there for their cooperation and assistance.”
With support from the Swan Hill community, Inner Wheel Swan Hill Club continues to help raise funds in support of medical research that may have the power to change lives.
Swan Hill Inner Wheel Club is a group of welcoming women who meet every second Thursday of the month at 11am.
