THE footy-netball club Abercrombie Wind Farm Fishing Competition has been run and won.
There were more than 200 seniors and about 70 juniors entered. The rise in the Edward arrived just in time to get the fish biting, and bite they did.
Out of the 531 fish registered, 343 were carp. There were 29 bait steeling bream landed and only six yellers. The cod were on the bite with 133 getting landed. An amazing 54 of those cod were legal size, the biggest 86cm. The biggest yeller was 54cm. There were also three turtles registered.
One competitor didn’t have a good run. His dog found a bit of chicken that had a hook in it. That took more than an hour to remove. Then he finally got to bed and there was a five-foot carpet snake in it.
Come up a day earlier next year mate, and claim your spot back. Things might go smoother.
Well done to all of the organisers. Thank you to all of the sponsors. Without them, there is no fishing comp. Thank you to all of the helpers and thank you especially to all of our competitors. Once again, without you there would be no fishing comp. See you all next year. Remember for next year, register early. If our event gets too popular, we will have to limit the entries to about 300 or we would have trouble feeding everyone. I am sure most will be going back home a couple of kilos heavier.
Bush sculpture competition
FOR those of you that think you are pretty handy at sticking steel or any other recycled material together with a welder or any other means, our Moulamein Gallery has their biannual competition coming up this year.
In the Large Freestanding Sculpture section this creation must be able to be carried by two people. It has a $1000 first prize and a $500 second prize up for grabs.
There is also a Small Freestanding Sculpture section with $500 first prize and $250 second prize. This creation must have no bigger than a 30cm x 50cm base.
This will all be happening on June 7 which seems like a long way away but believe me it’s not. It’s just around the corner. For more information email moulameinartgallery@outlook.com. For phone enquiries please ring Joy on 0488 380 470.
River levels
OUR Edward has continued to rise and is now at 1.6 metres and just more than 1400 megs a day. This level will stay with us for the next week or so. As I said, I do not know if they put this water down for our fishing comp or they just had orders. But, I thank them again. It made our Footy-Netball Abercrombie Wind Farm Fishing Competition a great success. Everyone below Moulamein, could you please order water for this time next year.
