LAKE Boga celebrated as a community on Sunday afternoon as part of the region’s Australia Day celebrations.
Hosted by the Lake Boga Lion’s Club on the Lake Boga foreshore, the event began at 11.30am with a display of vintage cars and an official welcome to the event at midday.
Attendees shared a barbecue lunch provided by the Lion’s Club and served by the Lake Boga Sea Scouts before the official ceremony started.
Winners of Lake Boga’s awards were Barry Barr (Citizen of the Year), Ryan Thompson (Young Citizen of the Year) and Lake Boga Red Cross (Organisation of the Year).
Lake Boga’s Red Cross branch celebrated its 110th birthday in October last year.
Lion’s Club member Suzanne Donnelly said the day was a great success and the club was pleased with the turnout.
“It was perfect weather for celebrations on the lake and people of all ages came, from the very young to the not so young,” she said.
“The vintage cars were a popular attraction with around 30 on display.
“People enjoyed listening to the Swan Hill Brass Band.
“The Sea Scouts provided great lunches and we also had drinks and donuts.
“Sally Bethune gave a great, passionate talk about her dairy farming business and the importance of the community that they live and work in
“Mayor Stuart King and Councillor Hugh Broad were present and Stuart spoke.
“Eleven Year 6 students from Lake Boga Primary School were presented with a plant to commemorate the end of their primary schooling.
“The plants were donated by the Lake Boga Community Garden. Kids love these.”
