Fundraiser bowls tournament

SWAN Hill Bowls Club is inviting the community to support the Mallee MRI Appeal at their special fundraising tournament on Sunday, March 23.

Organiser Lynda King said entries were already coming in to make for a lively afternoon

“There’ll be a mixture of good competitors and people who are just keen to have a bowl, so it’ll be more of a relaxed social day than competitive,” she said.

“So far, we have two teams from Moulamein and one from further away, so it’s not just teams from Swan Hill.

“We just want people to come along, have a good time, and help raise funds for the MRI.”

A raffle will be on offer for bowlers and spectators alike, donated by local businesses.

“There’s going to be some excellent prizes at very good value, with some getting up to $200 or more,” Mrs King said.

“We are also accepting donations from anyone who would like to put money towards the cause.”

Mrs King said the majority of bowlers are in a higher age bracket and are familiar with the challenges of not having an MRI nearby.

“We have all had experiences where you have to go to Bendigo or Melbourne, with some people having to go on a fairly regular basis,” she said.

“You have to depend on someone to get you there and get everything in order to go.

“We feel it’s a very good cause to support, and having an MRI would be great for Swan Hill.”

The tournament will begin at 1pm on the Sunday and the entries are due by 9am that morning.

Entries are $15 per person or $45 per team.

To enter, contact Bill King on 0428 324 083.

Aquatic day

THE Aquatic and Recreation Centre is partnering with the Mallee MRI Appeal for their community open day, 11am-3pm on Saturday, March 29.

Organiser Karla Barnes said the occasion was a great opportunity to contribute to the cause.

“Giving people the facilities to keep active and stay healthy fits with our ethos and it’s something we take a lot of pride in, so we were keen to be able to make that contribution,” she said.

“Along with getting the pool inflatable in the water, we’re planning some pickle ball, group fitness mega classes and a reformer pilates come-and-try, to show the community what we have on offer.”
