Nominations open for council

CANDIDATE nominations for the Swan Hill Rural City Council election open 9am Monday, allowing hopefuls eight days to nominate before they close at noon on Tuesday, September 17.

SHRCC chief executive Scott Barber encourages motivated individuals to consider standing for council.

“Council is seeking candidates that are motivated by a genuine desire to contribute to our local development and address local community needs,” he said.

“Standing for Council offers residents an opportunity to actively shape the future of our municipality.

“Strong candidates possess an understanding of local issues, exhibit integrity and transparency, and have relevant experience or skills for effective governance.”

Councillors preside over the strategic direction for the municipality, policy development, identifying service standards and monitoring performances across the organisation, for the economic, social and cultural development of the Swan Hill Rural City.

Council decisions have significant impact of the everyday lives of citizens, across areas such as children and family resources, health and wellbeing, residential services, sport and leisure, environment and biodiversity, roads and safety, and community wellbeing.

Nomination paperwork for eligible community members is available through the Victorian Electoral Commission at new-candidatehelper.vec.vic.gov.au/Signin
