From men’s health to bowls

Fire continues to burn

UNFORTUNATELY, once you get a fire like this started in a river bend, there is not much you can do except wait it out. The fire got into another tree today and put a fair bit of smoke up. All within the containment lines.

Another problem with this fire is that it has dropped another giant red gum into our Edward. Right next to the one that fell in a couple of years ago blocking our river downstream from Moulamein.

Men’s health night this Saturday

I WILL just leave this note in until it happens, as I think it is very important. We are having an educational night at our Moulamein Bowling Club to point out the bleeding obvious to our men in our district that they have to start looking after themselves.

We are not getting any younger fellers. Due to funding available, it will be a bit like the old Sportsman’s Night with some big names like AFL Legend’s Brian Taylor and Matt Richardson as well as other speakers.

Even though it is about men’s mental and physical health, women are encouraged and welcome to attend. Who is going to remind the silly old bugger of what he has been told if it is not his wife, partner or daughter.

This promises to be an entertaining as well as a great information night. All this for only $10. All of the entry fee will be getting donated to the Movember Charity. There will be a bus running from Barham for a small charge. If we can get a bit more funding we may be able to organise a bus from other towns. For more information ring Courtney on 0429 646 942.

Bowls finals start.

DIVISION 2 can hang up their bowls for the season. But Divi 1 gets to play top of the table, Murray Downs this week.

In the last home-and-away game for the season Divi 1 was doing OK at smoko. Then the dreaded cream cakes kicked in and they went two rinks down, one rink up.

Down overall to lose their top spot and let Lake Boga sneak into the four by one point. Divi 2 were also going well at smoko. The cream cake effect kicked in for a while then they managed to get two rinks up, one rink down.

Up overall. Maybe the cream cakes had a bigger effect on the Swan Hill side as they are not quite as used to them as we are.

Divi 1 will be playing their first final at the Swan Hill Club this Saturday. I will not even mention the cream cake situation as I may wear one before the season is over.

Good luck to all the teams involved and well done to get there.

River levels.

OUR Edward did drop and it is now down to just more than 1300 megs and just above 1.5 metres.

The Edward should hold this level for a while depending on irrigation demand.
