LONERGAN RETURNS TO NEST
There will be another Lonergan brother on the field for Lake Boga this year, with the Magpies welcoming Aaron to the club where brother Jayden has been plying his trade since 2016.
The brothers last shared the field in 2014 for former Mallee Football League side Woomelang-Lascelles, and won the 2013 MFL premiership with Aaron as joint coach.
Aaron also played two seasons for the NT Thunder in the NEAFL and more than 100 games for Darwin’s Palmerstone Magpies.
Playing over 350 games across his career, Aaron provides extra grunt and determination to the Magpies midfield.
He played all of his junior football with the Magpies, and was a senior player from his debut in 2002 until 2011. He re-joins his first club after a single season with Murray League side, Moama.
“I am looking forward to be back home at Lake Boga, introducing my kids to where I grew up and help out the young locals coming through the ranks… and getting to play with Jaydo again,” Lonergan said.
RAIDERS SIGN IRYMPLE STAR
After more than 300 games for the Irymple Football Club, Nathan Hamence has made the switch to Koondrook-Barham.
Hamence joins the River Raiders with a long list of accolades, including five premierships, multiple club best and fairest medals, and a league medal in 2016.
He played at Irymple for 14 years, and missed the previous season through injury.
A wealth of experience comes with the addition of Hamence, which is sure to boost the young Koondrook Barham side.
SWANS LAND LEWIN
Another junior Magpie is returning to the Central Murray, with former Lake Boga player Anthony Lewin making the move to Swan Hill for 2024.
Lewin left the Magpies in 2017, making the switch to Bears Lagoon Serpentine Football Club in the Loddon Valley Football League and now returns to the region where he grew up.
A key addition to the Swan’s backline, Lewin will provide aggression at the ball, having shown his prowess for his former side, who fell just short of a Grand Final berth last year.
WOORINEN WELCOME TWO
The new signings continued late last year at Woorinen, with the Tigers strengthening across the park.
Jack Hughes joins the Tigers from Moama, joining sister Chloe Beasy at the club.
Luke Merrett is another new face joining the den after a short hiatus, having most recently played for Northcote Park in the Northern Football League.
