A HIGH-percentage win couldn’t have come at a better time for Kerang, who beat Koondrook-Barham by 55 goals at home on Saturday.
Blues coach Chloe Adams said a solid win was exactly what her team were looking for after a couple of losses in a row.
“We were able to string together four consistent quarters against Koondrook-Barham, which is exactly what we need to be doing,” she said.
Zoe Livingston was one of the Blues’ best against the Raiders, the wing defender playing a vital role in her team’s win.
“She just has the ability to shut down any wing attack she plays on, so she was really pivotal, getting lots of tips and intercepts,” Adams said.
The convincing win lifted the Blues from fourth place to second, while the Raiders are still yet to get a win on the board in 2023.
FINAL WHISTLE:
Kerang 80
Koondrook-Barham 25
Roos keep tight control
BALRANALD have had a convincing win over Tooleybuc-Manangatang by 44 goals.
The Roos looked in control of the game from the start, with a massive 22-goal first quarter setting the team up for the rest of the game.
With a depleted side, the Saints struggled to convert their turnovers at the defence end into goals, while the Roos made sure to capitalise on every opportunity.
While it was a solid win, the Roos remain in sixth spot on the ladder, in desperate need of some high-percentage wins in order to make it back into finals contention. Tooleybuc-Manangatang still only have one win on the board for the 2023 season.
After a bye this weekend, the Roos will be looking for a win against a strong Mallee Eagles side, while the Saints could be up for a tough match against Woorinen.
FINAL WHISTLE:
Tooleybuc-Manangatang 23
Balranald 67
Kangas build winning lead
COHUNA made it back on to the winners’ list with an eight-goal win over Nyah-Nyah West United on Saturday.
It was a hard-fought game, with the Demons trailing behind the Kangas by only a goal at half-time.
But a big third quarter by the Kangas blew their lead out to six goals by the end of the third quarter, and were able to keep the momentum in the last quarter to get their eight-goal win.
“It was a credit to the girls – we backed ourselves in and played with confidence,” Cohuna playing coach Meg Dye said.
Demons coach Laura Anderson said despite the loss there were still lots of positives to take from the game.
“With a few changes to the line-up due to injuries, the girls adapted really well and played their roles,” she said.
The Demons and the Kangas now sit in eighth and nine positions respectively.
FINAL WHISTLE:
NNW United 42
Cohuna 50
Eagles way too good
THE Mallee Eagles dominated Tyntynder at the weekend, beating the Dogs by a convincing 32 goals.
The Dogs struggled to find their groove early on, while the Eagles settled into the game early.
Eagles playing coach Meg Allen said a solid 21-goal first quarter put them in a good position for the rest of the match.
“It was a super fast-paced game for both teams which made for an overall high-quality match in warm conditions,” she said.
Goal keeper Sarah Young was among the Eagles’ best, doing a mountain of work to shut down Dogs shooter Kim Calvert.
At the other end of the court, the Eagles’ attack was feeding the ball into their ring beautifully, with Dogs defenders Nicola Miliano and Bridget Dedeni unable to stop shooter Kellie Walker.
The Dogs will have another tough game ahead of them, taking on long-time rivals in Swan Hill.
FINAL WHISTLE:
Eagles 67
Tyntynder 35
