Murrabit 56 d Wandella 29
WHILE Wandella had a superb start against Murrabit at the weekend, they were ultimately no match for the ladder leaders, with the Blues claiming a 27-goal win at home.
Both teams made the most of their opportunities with accurate shooting, Murrabit leading by one at the first break.
The midcourt battle between Lauren Morrow and Trishelle Robinson was neck and neck, as the two experienced players battled it out for much of the match.
That was as close as the game got all day, with the reigning premiers clocking up a 16-goal second quarter while the Bombers could manage only six.
For the Blues, Erin McKean was beginning to look more comfortable each week.
Mary Yates-Ward was again magnificent, proving she is one of the best midcourt players in the league. Murrabit’s big win leaves the Bombers searching for answers.
Moulamein 64 d Hay 41
IT was always going to be a David versus Goliath battle, but the Lions had every opportunity to take down the Swans at the weekend.
Moulamein went into the match with a depleted line-up and were missing several of their usual team members.
However it did not stop them and the Lions are still searching for their first win of the season.
Both attack ends are to be commended with high scores shot by both sides in a competitive and attacking encounter.
Ellie Jamieson and Ruby Cattanach continue to improve each week for Hay, while Moulamein’s Meg Rooney shot well, aided by Stevie Bibby. Rhiann O’Meara stood up for the Swans in the absence of Ally Buckley.
Hay was far from disgraced, however, and will be eagerly awaiting the Bombers next to try for their first win.
Macorna 39 d Ultima 35
A LATE surge by Ultima almost upset Macorna’s winning streak at the weekend, with the Tigers falling over the line with a four-goal win.
The Tigers held the lead at each break and were moving the ball well throughout the midcourt despite missing in-form players April Wishart and Shamana Bacon.
Leah Lacy stepped up into the C-bib for Macorna and had her work cut out for her on Roos coach Tayla Forster.
Forster was intercepting balls early and always provides plenty of run for her team. Bianca Brasser and Kobe Davidson were also working hard to try and effect turnovers for Ultima despite the accuracy of Macorna’s GA Emmalea Wishart.
After a late change in defence for Macorna, Ultima captured the opportunity and shot four consecutive goals late in the final quarter, however the Tigers were able to hold on, claiming their third win in a row ahead of their match with reigning premiers Murrabit in a fortnight.
