THE Sea Lake and district community has dug deep this festive season for the town’s inaugural wishing tree program.
The initiative, organised by Tyrrell College and Neighbourhood House, will ensure no local children go without this Christmas.
Organiser Tarsh Hickey said changing demographics within the town and tough times had prompted the collection of toys, which will be distributed to local children throughout the Buloke shire.
“This initiative not only brings joy to families but also fosters a sense of community and togetherness,” she said.
In three short weeks the community embraced the opportunity to be part of the project, with local businesses, families and individuals donating towards the worthwhile cause.
“We’ve had lots of generous donations,” Ms Hickey said.
“Some people will really benefit from a helping hand this Christmas.”
Sea Lake Neighbourhood House co-ordinator Kellie Matthews said the Sea Lake community was very generous and passionate when it came to looking out for each other.
“The need for assistance in Sea Lake is definitely growing,” Ms Matthews said.
“Sometimes we’re not 100 per cent aware of it, as we don’t have direct access to welfare assistance such as the Red Cross or Vinnies.”
As donations continued to roll in, Ms Hickey said the heartfelt initiative was a huge success, with plans to ensure it continued well into the future.
“We believe that every child deserves to experience the magic of Christmas,” Ms Hickey said.
“The donations have been greatly appreciated and will ensure that each child receives something special to unwrap on Christmas morning.”
