What is an MRI machine and why do we need one?

A magnetic resonance imaging machine is a sophisticated diagnostic tool that provides detailed images of the body’s internal structure and organs without the need for invasive procedures.

Swan Hill District Health has been fundraising for an MRI since 2023 and the Mallee MRI Appeal is an initiative by several community members to bring awareness and support to acquire an MRI scanner.

An MRI machine will significantly enhance health-care services for local residents by reducing the need for lengthy travel and improving access to timely diagnoses for a wide range of medical conditions.

Some common reasons for getting an MRI include:

• Brain and spinal cord injuries

• Knee or shoulder problems

• Back pain

• Chest pain

• Abdominal pain

• Cancer detection

Who will benefit and how can you help?

An MRI is an unmet need in our community.

Patients face challenges in accessing this service locally and must travel long distances for these vital diagnostic tests. This places a considerable burden on individuals and families, impacting productivity and incurring additional expense. Meeting this need locally will enhance the overall health outcomes and well-being of our community by capturing individuals that may choose to avoid the time and cost of travelling.

This inhibits early detection and treatment of various medical conditions.

Our community deserves access to quality and timely integrated health-care services through up-to-date equipment and first-class staff.

The MRI appeal is inviting all community to develop
