Swans win thriller

SWAN Hill recorded a remarkable come from behind premiership win in Saturday’s B grade decider, defeating a heart-broken Woorinen by two goals.

Having trailed by four goals at three-quarter time after a dominant 15 minute period from the Tigers, the Swans were forced to fight their way back into the contest with a dramatic late burst over the dying minutes.

Trailing by three goals with three minutes remaining, the Swans reeled off five consecutive goals to turn a three-goal deficit into a two-goal victory, with goaler Payton Cutrell the hero for Swan Hill, scoring all five to also claim best on court honours.

It was a heart-breaking end to the season for Woorinen, who lost just one game throughout the home-and-away season, before falling to Swan Hill in the second semi-final and grand final.

The 41-39 result was born from a see-sawing first half, with Swan Hill holding sway for much of the opening 30 minutes to take a three-goal lead into half-time.

Woorinen made their move in the third term, shocking the Swans with a 15-goal to eight third quarter, before the dramatic finish.

Cutrell was a clear standout for the best on court title, scoring 31 of her team’s 41 goals playing at both goal attack and goal shooter.
