Murray Valley Playing Area’s new season is underway, with several tournaments being played during July.

Coming up during August will be Racecourse Bowls’ Autobarn Any Combination Triples on Sunday, August 6, with the Tooleybuc Skins on Saturday, August 19 next up.

Sunday, August 20 will see the Ash Roberts Homes Any Combination Triples played at Racecourse, while August 26-27 will see Moulamein hold its Classic Triples, with the Swan Hill Bowls Club hosting its open day on Sunday, August 27.

On Sunday, September 10, the Murray Valley Umpires mandatory rules session is at Murray Downs, starting at 10am, with all Murray Valley umpires expected to attend.

September will also be a very busy month:

Saturday September 2 – Lake Boga Open Day – Max Parsons Any Combination Fours.

Sunday September 3 – Murray Downs Open Day – Mixed Triples.

Sunday September 10 – Racecourse – Skins Triples.

Sunday September 17 – Tooleybuc Stars Day.

Tuesday September 19 and Wednesday September 20 – Murray Downs 2 Bowl Classic.

Sunday September 24 – Swan Hill Bowling Arm Classic.

Tuesday September 26 – Murray Downs Ladies 3 Bowl Triples.

Wednesday September 27 – Racecourse Marraboor Pharmacy Any Combination Fours.

Saturday September 30 – Racecourse – Muston Memorial Fundraiser for cancer.

The Murray Mallee Bushrangers’ season launch for the region’s juniors will be held at Barham on September 3.

The Victoria-NSW challenge is at Balranald on Sunday, October 1, with pennant to start the following week, with weekend pennant beginning on Saturday, October 7, and midweek pennant on Tuesday, October 10.


RACECOURSE

Social bowls on Sunday, July 30 was well attended, with Bryan Bice and Phil Parry topping the ladder with two wins and +20 shots, while the runners up, with two wins and +19 shots, were Norm Smith and Rob Rust.

Jackpot bowls on Wednesday was played in perfect conditions, with Peter Loughran, Dawn Doran and Peter Hooper finishing as the winners with two wins and +19 shots.

Alex Smith, Graeme Clark and Kessada Smith (Swan Hill) were the runners up, winning one game and finishing with +10 shots.

The Jackpot of $300 went off with score of -20, with Glenn McIntosh and Cath Parry the lucky winners.

The new Jackpot for next week is already up to $267.

On Sunday, August 6, our Autobarn Any Combination Triples will be played, starting at 12.30pm. Please get your names to Kevin Vivian on 0427 353 243 if you wish to enter.

On Sunday, August 20, we will hold our Ash Roberts Homes Any Combination Triples, which starts at 12.30pm.

We will also have a pop-up bowls shop from Shepparton at the club that day for those who wish to purchase clothing, bowls equipment, bags and shoes.

Please give them a ring and they will bring what you require with them.


SWAN HILL

Three lucky people took out the jackpot at Friday Frolics last week.

Alan Marshman, Kerry Power and Heather Smith didn’t mind losing their game of bowls with a score of minus 1, when they were drawn out as the lucky number to win the jackpot.

Remember, you don’t have to win bowls to hit the jackpot.

Friday Frolics will be on again today, make sure you are entered by 2.30pm and ready to play by 3pm.

All are welcome to take part in a game of bowls, happy hour and raffles.

It is a most enjoyable social time for anyone who wishes to participate in any or all of these activities.

Please note the Swan Hill Bowls Club opening day, which is combined with RSL Diggers Day tournament is on Sunday, August 27, with a 12pm start and RSL stand to, with play to begin at 12.30pm.

$1000 prize money and money back best winning team each game.

Entry fee is $45 per team, or $15 for a single entry, with afternoon tea included.

LAKE BOGA

Congratulations must go to Neville Smith, Max Lord (Lake Boga) and Ritchie Doran (Racecourse) on winning the Pelican Jackpot Bowls last Saturday, with 56 players competing for the event in perfect sunny weather.

Those who have played bowls understand how difficult it is to achieve a resting toucher, but on Saturday, we had five – well done to Terry Haw, Sally Mehan, Jeanie Leach, Brian Warren and Marg Smith.

The jackpot that stood at $339 failed to be claimed, so this week the jackpot will rise to $420.

Names to be in by 12pm for a 12.30pm start, please leave a message on the club phone.

A reminder that our club’s season opening day, sponsored by Parsons Bulk Haulage, is on Saturday, September 2 with a 12.30pm start, prizemoney for the day is $600.

Any combination fours, single and team entries are welcome, with a $10 single entry or $40 a team.
