Doors open to parents

SWAN Hill North Primary School opened its classrooms to their students’ families and prospective enrollees to celebrate Education Week.

On Wednesday, parents and families were welcomed to visit the school and take a look what the school’s children achieve on a daily basis.

The school’s principal, Brea Terris, says involving families in the learning process is integral at Swan Hill North Primary.

“We feel it’s really important for families to come along and see the students’ achievements,” she said. “Education Week is a chance to show the fantastic work that government schools do, and we think it’s really important for parents to see that all of the schools in Swan Hill are really great schools.”

“This year for Education Week, we are having open classrooms and inviting our Swan Hill North Primary community to come in and see the fantastic work we do in our classrooms.”

With this year’s Education Week theme being Get Your Move On, Ms. Terris said her school had a real focus on keeping their students active.

“Before we begin teaching every day, we have a focus on being active as well as student wellbeing,” she said. “Getting the kids moving at the start of the day is something we do every morning, to ensure that the kids are ready to begin learning for the day.”

“We will have some teachers leading some activities in our open classrooms, that will be using Department of Education resources with a focus on us being active learners.”

Ms Terris said the small community at Swan Hill North Primary allows for more personalised learning.

“I love working with the kids every day,” she said. “I get to be involved in classrooms and get to work with the student leaders a lot so having them involved in student voice is so important.”

“We’re a small community, which is really lovely. I think we really know every student here and have an understanding of where each child is in their learning journey.”
