Darts Association donation on target

THE Swan Hill Darts Association has again hit the charity bullseye.

Every year the association aims to give back to the community by donating $500 to a worthwhile local charity.

President Deryck Allen presented the donation to Goodie Hiensch and her volunteer group A Good Kitchen last month, to support the work it does to confront hunger and poverty in the Swan Hill region.

A Good Kitchen, started in 2018, operates every Tuesday night to provide people in need with hot meals. In the five years the organisation has provided an average of about 50 meals a week – close to 13,000 meals in total.

Mr Allen said he felt satisfaction at being able to give back to local charities.

“We’ve been donating for five years now,” he said.

“A Good Kitchen is doing fantastic work, and it’s a real privilege to be able to help them along.”

Ms Hiensch said the donation had come as a surprise.

“We had no idea they were going to do that,” she said.

“The association contacted me at about half past five, one night and they let me know they’d be handing over the cheque just an hour later.

“It was absolutely brilliant, and I cannot thank them enough.

“As well as anyone else who has given us any donations over the last five years, we appreciate everything that we are given.

“Nothing ever goes to waste here.”

A Good Kitchen is running a winter clothing drive and is asking the community to donate warm clothing such as beanies, gloves and scarves, as well as blankets.
