Blues best too good for Tigers

Murrabit 44 d Macorna 33

IN a tight, contested game, Murrabit held on to defeat Macorna in a big last quarter at the weekend.

The Blues had the jump on the Tigers in the first, before things evened up in the second quarter.

April Wishart was running tirelessly in the midcourt for the Tigers, while Mary Yates-Ward was creating great space for Murrabit.

A horrible collision between Macorna’s Emmalea Wishart and Murrabit’s Erin McKean saw Wishart take no further part in the game.

Young up-and-coming player Shamana Bacon was working hard to keep her team in the game.

Murrabit’s Grace Gillingham didn’t miss in the second half, shooting at 100 per cent accuracy, and made them count when it mattered most for her team, with the Blues now finding themselves secure in second place.

Moulamein 37 d Ultima 35

AN epic battle occurred between Ultima and Moulamein, with the Swans remaining undefeated after five rounds and on top of the ladder.

Lou Frost was back to her best for the Roos, while Meg Rooney again stood out for the Swans.

Accuracy in goals at both ends made it hard for defenders to rebound, as both teams made an impact on the scoreboard.

Tayla Foster’s strong midcourt drives and class showed why she is a player to watch, while Stevie Bibby was again outstanding for the winners.

Wandella 56 d Hay 47

WANDELLA are on the board thanks to a nine-goal victory over Hay in a seesawing encounter between teams desperate to notch up their first win of 2023.

The match went goal for goal, before some passing errors from Hay enabled Wandella to capitalise and lead by nine goals going into the second quarter.

Trishelle Martin for the Bombers was on target and gave her side the early advantage, while Jade Auldist was strong for the Lions in the midcourt, providing some strong feeds to her goalies.

Hay’s changes in defence proved pivotal as they won the third quarter by four goals, with the margin getting back to five goals in the last quarter before the baby Bombers held on to win.
