Early challenge for Nullawil

It’s the move that’s been two years in the making – but in 2023, Nullawil will make their debut in the North Central Football League.

While the Maroons have previously been the yardstick of the neighbouring Golden Rivers league, this year will be all about finding their feet against a higher standard of competition. And while they may have been the team to beat in the past, they can be sure their reception won’t be a welcome one when they run out for the first time against reigning premiers Birchip-Watchem in a fortnight’s time.

The opening round of the season promises to be an exciting one, with both reigning premiers not only set to clash in the footy, but a grand final rematch in the A Grade netball – with premiers Wedderburn hosting Charlton.

After going winless in the seniors football last year, Charlton will be keen to show they are also on the improve against the Redbacks, while last year’s runners-up Donald will be hoping to kick off their season in style when they host a hungry Wycheproof-Narraport.

The final game of the opening round also promises to be an entertaining one, with several former Boort juniors returning this season in an effort to return their home club under the guidance of Dale Cameron. The Magpies are sure to not have it all their own way however, as they are set to face preliminary finalists Sea Lake-Nandaly, who will be hoping to make a statement of their own this season.
