Murrabit 2023 Netball Preview

MURRABIT are going into the 2023 season as A Grade premiers – an accolade co-coach Kalinda Stanton hopes to see happen again this year.

“We ended the season the best way it could in many ways, coming home with the premiership, which has been a long time coming for the A Grade team, having played in many grand finals in the last few years but not having won one since 2010,” Stanton said.

Coaching alongside Kayla Casey, Stanton said the Blues will field three senior and two junior sides this year.

“The main goal of the season is always success across all grades,” she said.

“But this year we want to really want to focus on enjoying netball, building up some talented juniors and working on new combinations.”

The 2022 Golden Rivers premiers will have a bit of a different line-up this season, losing a lot of players to injuries, pregnancies and coaching opportunities at other clubs.

“We are having to rebuild half our side, which will be a challenge but also exciting to bring something different,” Stanton said.

“We had a few local girls returning to the court after having some time off with university and families.”

PLAYER TO WATCH

Stanton believes Wandella recruit Montana Keating will be one to keep an eye on for the Blues.

“She will be a great asset to our team and she has slotted in really well,” Stanton said.

“She’s a young, athletic and diverse player than can play a few positions, so it’s going to be exciting to see what she can bring.”
