Charlton 2023 Netball Preview

JOINING Charlton from Bendigo South, new A Grade coach Annie Hockey is hoping to build on the club’s great momentum from last year.

The Blues just fell short of the premiership in 2022, going down to Wedderburn in the grand final.

“I am very hopeful to take home the premiership this year,” Hockey said.

“I have a great team of girls to work with this year, so it is looking very promising.”

Leading A Grade alongside Hockey will be assistant coach Kirsty McKenzie, while Emily Lanyon and Chelsea McCallum will coach B Grade, and Ellie Rae will take on C Grade.

“We have a great coaching staff with the netball with some very knowledgeable coaches on board,” Hockey said.

The Blues will keep the majority of their line-up from 2022, losing only Abby Thompson from last year’s A Grade side.

“The girls have been dedicated, showing up regardless of the weather and having a good crack at whatever us coaches have thrown at them,” Hockey said.

“I have been welcomed into the club with open arms and I am looking forward to seeing what the season ahead holds.”

PLAYER TO WATCH

Hockey said 2022 A Grade Best and Fairest runner up Megan Bruns has had a very promising preseason and looks set to have a great season.

Young gun Isobel Soulsby will also be one to keep an eye out for, with the 17-year-old already showing a huge amount of talent on the court.
