MURRAY DOWNS

FIRSTLY, congratulations to Buck Lehmann who won the Murray Valley Playing Area Champion of Champions January 5. Another fantastic win.

Buck will now go on to play in the regional finals in March.

Sadly, we lost another of our long-time bowlers in David Carmichael who passed away on December 27. Our condolences to David’s family and Betty and Carl Fox.

Social bowls last week was played in beautiful weather with 24 players taking part.

Congratulations to the winners, Garry McCaig, Connie Rovere and Edna Borchard and well done to the runners-up Ray Lamb (visitor) Bob Napier and Lance Howley.

The jackpot was not won so is mounting to a nice amount for some lucky person to win.

Members rostered for duty on January 23 are Ray and Judy Wilson.

The Murray Downs Bowls Club held a twilight tournament last Saturday evening.

Teams came from Lake Boga, Tooleybuc, Swan Hill, Brunswick and Racecourse.

SWAN HILL

HAPPY new year to all our bowling friends.

Sorry about last week, did the news item and it somehow went astray, must be up in the clouds somewhere?

Swan Hill Bowls Club began 2025 with a very successful new year’s night tournament, sponsored by Doey’s Meats.

Sixty bowlers enjoyed a sausage sizzle prior to play commencing at 5pm.

The evening was rather warm, but that didn’t dampen the bowlers’ enthusiasm after the holiday break. The greens were in tip, top condition.

After a countback, Neville and Carol Smith (Racecourse) and Bill King (Swan Hill) were declared the winners.

Runners-up were Shane Domaille, Kylie Gardner and Richie Doran (Racecourse), with third prize going to David Jonkers, Kevin Vivian (Racecourse) and John Walker (Lake Boga).

Racecourse bowlers scooped the pool for the lucky card prizes: N Smith – skip, K Bailey – second, and A Threadgold – lead.

Players from Glenroy, Lake Boga, Manangatang, Murray Downs, Nyah, Racecourse, Tooleybuc and Swan Hill had a great night, finishing with a delicious supper, thanks to the ladies.

Midweek pennant resumed on Tuesday.

Swan Hill Division 1 visited Lake Boga, being glad of a slight breeze from the lake on such hot day.

Lake Boga came out on top winning both rinks, finishing 21 shots up. Prior to this round, Boga and Swan Hill were one win each.

This week Swan Hill meet Racecourse 2 at Racecourse.

Division 2 were challenged by Murray Downs 3 on Swan Hill’s greens.

J Thompson’s rink defeated K O’Bree’s team by four shots, but L McPhee’s rink had the upper hand over F Burge’s players by 16 shots.

The twos will also venture to Racecourse next Tuesday to do battle with their No.3 team.

Saturday pennant returns on January 18.

Division 1 play Racecourse 2 away, while Division 2 play ladder leaders Balranald at home.
