Roving story time

STORIES and tall tales were passed down to the next generation at the Swan Hill Regional Library last Wednesday.

The library hosted its annual roving story time to celebrate 2022 Children’s Week.

Parents and carers joined the kids in listening to some stories before enthusiastically meeting a rabbit and guinea pig from Mallee Pet Suppliers.

Acting library manager Tracey Free told The Guardian she was happy with the turnout.

“We were extremely pleased with how many kids attended, especially with all the rain happening lately,” she said.

“I had one mother come up to me and say thank you because it allowed them to take their mind off the floods for a couple of hours, so that was beautiful.”

This preceded a walk around town, where the kids visited several sights, including the post office and cenotaph, whilst meeting various community members along the way.

“The library joined with other community groups for a guided walk along Campbell Street where the kids sang nursery rhymes, listened to more stories and even posted a letter,” Ms Free said

Upon returning to the library for a light lunch, some extra special guests were waiting for a final fun activity.

“When we got back from our walk, the emergency services people were waiting for us along with representatives from Mallee District Aboriginal Services,” Ms Free said.

“It was great they played the didgeridoo and read a story to the kids, which they all loved.”
