Dad is their world

THE promise of a donut is enough to tickle the fancy of any dad around the country, and it certainly did in Swan Hill on Friday with a turnout at the St Mary’s Primary School Father’s Day celebration.

The school was packed with children and their fathers or special person, with an incredible atmosphere bubbling all around the school grounds.

“Today’s event is a lovely celebration of being able to come back together after COVID and re-engaging with families,” St Mary’s principal Kate Quin said.

“We had a really successful Mother’s Day in May, and today continues having our families back involved.”

Treats and donuts were enjoyed by all, as the dads learnt about the curriculum and kicked the footy together at recess.

“Families want to be back in schools, and children want to see their folks here, and there’s a beautiful sense of community and joy outside on the playground today,” Ms Quin said.

“There’s a lot of research showing the more fathers are engaged in their children’s learning, the higher their academic success, so it’s testimony today, I suppose, how involved our parents are with their children and wanting to be a part of the journey.”

The children were all well behaved, which is usual according to Ms Quin.

“We don’t have any naughty kids at St Mary’s,” she said, with the smiles on their faces brightening an already sunny day.

“One of the things we know, is all children love having their parents involved in their learning and being a part of things, so today’s just an affirmation of that,” Ms Quin said.
