MURRAY DOWNS

SOCIAL bowls last week was won by Harry Whitford, David Timmins and Greg Whitla, with the runners-up being Ken O’Bree, Cecilia McCaig and Mal Martin. Well done to all members, with the lucky number, worth $30, being won by Lindsay Toomer.

The Ladies’ Day, three-bowl triples will be held on Tuesday with a 12.30pm start, with three games of eight ends. Send team or single entries to Dawne Holland on 0402 020 996, with entries closing at 5pm on Monday.

The Murray Downs Classic, Sponsored by WDEA Works, will be held on the September 20 and 21, with entries to close on September 18. Entries should go to Brian Lehmann on 0427 902 201 or Garry McCaig on 0413 188 261.

SWAN HILL

OPENING day for the Swan Hill Bowls Club last Sunday was an outstanding success, with 78 players competing for the prizemoney. The weather brought perfect bowling conditions, with players coming from Euston, Wycheproof, Charlton, Pyramid Hill, Cohuna, Lake Boga, Murray Downs, Racecourse and Swan Hill bowls clubs.

Winners for the day were Brian Bice, Lois and Ian Lockhart (Racecourse) and the runners-up were Ken and Janet Hamill and Robyn Jolley (Lake Boga). Third place was taken home by Doug Fisher, David Uebergang and Noel Delmenico (Murray Downs).

The Lucky Skip was Noeline Weir, Lucky 2nd Barrie Husson and Lucky Lead Therese Furnell. The club thanks Ray White Real Estate Agents for sponsoring the day, as well as the grounds, office and bar staff, our members who provided a delicious afternoon tea and the ladies who assisted in the kitchen. A great day was had by all who attended.

Social bowls winners this week were G. Clark, A. Hill and R. Waldron. Due to an increase in numbers playing, a runners-up prize was awarded to B. Quaife, R. Wardle and new member D. McBeath. The team of G. Clark, A. Hill and R. Waldron claimed the jackpot.

Please take notice of upcoming events on the club noticeboard and players should add name where you can play. On Sunday, September 18, there will be a practice match at Quambatook, while on Wednesday, September 21, there will be a Geelong Friendship Tour for social bowls, with bowlers required to play with and against the visitors. Sunday, September 25, is our RSL Diggers Day, with details on the noticeboard.

Friday Frolic is on again on Friday with another fun afternoon of bowling and socialising.

President Brian and Swan Hill bowlers extend their sympathies to the Mangiameli families at the loss of their beloved Mick. Mick was a dedicated and active member, always enjoying his bowls for many years at the club.

RACECOURSE

CONGRATULATIONS to Glenn McIntosh, Ross Smith and Lyndal Taylor on winning the Moulamein Classic last weekend.

The winners of jackpot bowls on Wednesday were Graeme Bennett, Kevin Vivian and Sheena Coe (Nyah), with two wins and +31 shots. Runners-up, with one win and +12 shots, were Rob Hayes, Mary Hooper and Bob McIntosh.

On Saturday at 9.30am we have our Muston Family Triples, with bowls and many raffles, with all proceeds to go to the Cancer Foundation.

On Sunday, September 11, 12.30pm we have the Clarks Gifts Any Combination Triples, with entries to Kevin Vivian on 0427 353 243.

Don’t forget our AGM for board positions will be held on Wednesday, September 14, at 7pm. Everyone is welcome to come along and have their vote to elect the new board.

LAKE BOGA

LAST Saturday turned out to be a great day for bowls, with lots of players coming along to play. The winners were Robyn Jolly, Phil Parry and Leigh Kingsbury, while the runners-up were Mick Tempini, Ted Hyland and Bob Napier. The jackpot went off to the runners-Up team of Mick Tempini, Ted Hyland and Bob Napier. Lucky draw winners were Mal Martin, Barb Davies, Ivan Decker, Cath Parry, Phill Parry and Terry Haw.

Don’t forget Lake Boga bowls opening day is on Saturday at 1pm, with names to be in by Friday to Ken Hamill on 0408 591 256 or Rod Wickham on 0447 382 007. The competition will be any-combination fours with $600 prizemoney and is sponsored by Parsons Bulk Haulage. If members could bring a plate of sweets for afternoon tea, that would be greatly appreciated.

Winners for social bowls on Wednesday were Rod Dewhurst, Shirley Swan and Noel Hender, while the runners-up were Brian Fowles, Janet Hamill and Ian Ross. Members are reminded that memberships for the 2022-23 season are due and payable now.
