THE Nyah West Op Shop has shown it commitment to the community this past week, raising a grand total of $442.50 through a combination of raffles and donations.
These funds were generously contributed by local residents, community members, and the Nyah District Men’s Shed, have been donated to support the Nyah West and Woorinen Country Fire Authority (CFA) Brigades.
The donations were presented to the local fire brigades with Captain of the Nyah West CFA, Philip Maher, and First Lieutenant Matt Craig accepting the donations.
Representing the Woorinen CFA, Megan Edwards accepted the donation on behalf of Captain Jed O’Brien, who was not in attendance.
Captain Maher shared how the funds would directly benefit their operations, with this money going towards various pieces of equipment.
“This money will help us afford some new equipment for the trucks from new nozzles to batteries,” he said.
“We thank the Nyah West Op Shop for helping us out.
“It came as a bit of a surprise, but they are a great community resource, and we are grateful for their donation.”
The Op Shop, under the guidance of Minister Julie Worrall from the Anglican Church and supported by dedicated volunteers such as Carol Sutton, plays an invaluable role within the community.
More than just a store, the Nyah West Op Shop is a gathering place for the locals.
“We are open Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 10am until 3pm,” Ms Sutton said.
“People are always welcome to pop in for a cuppa and enjoy the air conditioning.”
The shop’s efforts to bring the community together extend beyond its operating hours.
As a volunteer-run initiative, the Nyah West Op Shop relies on the generosity of locals, both in donating items and offering their time.
The show will be closed for the holiday period and will reopen on January 20, but those interested in contributing are encouraged to come in for a chat at the Nyah West Op Shop, 7 O’Connor Street, Nyah West.
