Bulldogs in full control

TYNTYNDER had a convincing 25-point win against Kerang in round 17.

The Dogs maintained control for the majority of the game on their home court. At the first break the Blues trailed by four goals, with that deficit growing to 14 by half-time. Despite a solid fight from the young Kerang side in the second half, they just weren’t strong enough against the Dogs.

Dogs defender Nicola Miliano was a standout on the court, stopping a lot of the Blues’ attacks and winning possession of the ball for her side, opportunities converted well by Sarah Hawley in the goal circle.

Kerang will have their last chance to get a win on the board in a tough battle against Swan Hill this week, while Tyntynder have a difficult final game ahead of them against Balranald.

Swans outclass Saints

LADDER leaders Swan Hill were too good for Tooleybuc-Manangatang.

Plagued with injuries, Saints coach Melanie Wait said her young team “were outclassed by a much more experienced side”. While there were opportunities to score with plenty of balls turned over, the Saints found it hard to make it all the way back to the ring to convert goals.

Swan Hill playing coach Madeleine Nalder said she was happy with the way her team performed, shooting well in the rain and applying defensive pressure down the court.

“We focused on playing a consistent four quarters and we felt we did that for most of the game,” Nalder said.

Tooleybuc-Manangatang may just have a tough final round ahead of them this week, going up against Lake Boga. The Swans will travel to Kerang in what should be a good win for the away side, with Kerang yet to get a win since joining the A Grade competition.

Roos take upper hand

BALRANALD comfortably beat Nyah Nyah West United at the weekend.

It was a fairly evenly matched first quarter, with the Roos just taking the lead at the first break by two goals. By half- time they had pushed their lead out to four points over the Demons, with the score at 26-22. The Roos then really switched into gear in the third quarter, scoring 16 goals to the Demons’ seven. The last quarter was much the same, ending in the Demons going down by 23 points.

The win puts Balranald in second place on the ladder, while the Demons are in sixth position.

The Demons will take on Woorinen in the final round of the season in a must win match for both sides. The Roos will travel to Tyntynder this weekend for what should be a comfortable win.

Tigers a step ahead

COHUNA couldn’t quite get over the line in their last game for the 2022 season, going down to Woorinen by three goals.

It was a tight match, but the Tigers were able to stay one step ahead throughout.

Emily Siely was a standout for the Tigers, with her calm and impressive shooting pivotal in her team’s win. Tessa Demaria was also one of the Tigers’ best not just on but off the court, providing leadership for the junior members of the team.

Woorinen now have to win their last-round game against Nyah Nyah West United to secure their spot in finals. The Tigers are in fifth position on the ladder with 28 points, while the Demons are sixth on 26.

Cohuna have a bye in the last round.
