Grand final within reach for Swan Hill

THE Swan Hill men’s soccer team will resume their BASL League Cup season, travelling to Tatura to take on La Trobe University on Sunday afternoon following last weekend’s bye.

The Swans find themselves on top of the League Cup ladder with two rounds to play and victory against La Trobe would give them a strong chance of finishing in the top two and playing off in the League Cup Grand Final in a fortnight’s time.

Swan Hill are yet to taste defeat this season, with just two draws from their 11 matches so far making them one of the teams to beat across both BASL Division 2 competitions.

Also in action this weekend will be Swan Hill’s women’s team, who will also hit the road on Sunday to take on Epsom. While the young Swans are yet to record their first win, their improvement since the start of the season has been noticeable for such a young side, with Paige Schulz up front combining well Amity Scott, Abbey Houlihan and Sarah Scott in defence.

Finally, the under 16 boys will take the pitch in their first post-season match, travelling to Epsom-Huntly Reserve and take on Golden City Eaglehawk on Saturday.

The last time the two teams met was in round 1, with Golden City Eaglehawk recording a hard-fought 9-5 win over Swan Hill. Despite that result, the Swans will have high hopes of recording their fifth win of the season, having finished the home-and-away competition two points and one win clear of Eaglehawk.
