Neighbourhood House’s Men’s Shed and Priceline Pharmacy have joined forces to help promote better health for men.
On Tuesday, a team from Priceline entered The Men’s Shed to give the guys a reminder on what they should be doing with their medications including how to properly store it and take it.
“The pharmacy has found that this really helps people become aware of the services that are available to them,” said Neighbourhood House Manager Kate Bishop.
The Men’s Shed is a place for men to socialise and build whatever they desire, mainly focusing on woodwork.
They’re open two mornings a week from 8.30 to around lunch time, said member Robert Darby.
Priceline staff explained to the dozen men in attendance the importance of reviewing medication needs with their doctors and knowing the specific names and brands of the drugs.
“It’s good for them to hear this in their own space, not everyone is aware of what they can have and sometimes it’s a bit rushed at appointments,” Mrs Bishop said.
A major talking point of the discussion was the reduction in the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme’s safety net. As of July 1, concession card holders who get more than 36 prescriptions a year will get all further prescriptions free aftere the threshold was reduced from 48 scripts a year.
The Neighbourhood House and Men’s Shed are open for everyone and always welcoming of new members.
