SWAN Hill College found an interesting way to welcome in the first day of winter, hosting their MND Beanie Day with the highlight being six staff members facing buckets filled with ice.
On Wednesday, staff and students wore a collection of Fight MND Beanies that have long been associated with Neale Daniher and his work with the Big Freeze and the Queen’s Birthday Clash between Melbourne and Collingwood that is now in its eighth year.
At lunchtime, students gathered at the basketball court for a sausage sizzle and watch six staff members have ice cold water poured over them.
Wiseman Sibanda, Sabrina Murphy, Mr Mulchay, Mrs Gardner, Mr Snel and Principal Andrew Sartori all braved the ice cold water which raised money for MND research.
Ashley Rogers who organised the event alongside Danny Fraser and Whitney Kennedy was rapt with how the day turned out.
“Today was all about Swan Hill College showing our support in the fight against Motor Neuron Disease,” she said.
“We were trying to use today to make everyone a bit more aware of what MND is, how it happens and who it affects. Big thanks to the teachers that put their hand up.”
Mr Sartori was proud to see so many staff and students come together to raise money for such a worthy cause.
“MND affects so many people in Australia and around the world,” he said.
“I am sure that almost all of us have been touched by it in one way or another.
“It was fantastic to see so many of our students out supporting Ash, Danny and Whit today as they raised awareness and funds for MND.”
The college raised $230, which will be donated to the Fight MND Foundation.
