BreastScreen NSW Van coming to Balranald

A BREASTSCREEN NSW mobile screening van is coming to Balranald from Tuesday, May 10 to Wednesday, May 18, providing free mammograms to eligible people.

BreastScreen NSW (Greater Western) manager Meg O’Brien believes a screening mammogram is one of the most important things people aged 50 – 74 can do for their health, with around 90 per cent of people diagnosed with breast cancer having no family history.

“Detecting breast cancer early increases your chance of survival while reducing the likelihood of invasive treatment, such as mastectomy or chemotherapy,” Ms O’Brien said.

The BreastScreen NSW vans include the latest digital mammography technology and secure wireless communication system. The mobile clinic visiting Balranald is also equipped with a lift system to support those with health conditions or disability to have their mammogram.

Ms O’Brien says having a BreastScreen NSW van come to Balranald makes it easier for people to attend their recommended two-yearly screening.

“Bringing these vital services to Balranald means more local women can be screened,” she said.

“Life gets busy and we want women to make their health a priority.”

The van will be located at the Theatre Royal at 90 Market Street in Balranald from May 10 to May 18. This is a free service and no referral is needed.
