Easter bowls carnival hailed a success

DESPITE being rained out of their Monday competition, Swan Hill Bowls Club Easter Carnival organiser Bill King has labelled the weekend a success.

Kicking off on Friday under perfect conditions the 3 Bowl Pairs Competition drew in 14 teams with players coming from places Gunbower, Essendon and Ivanhoe.

In the afternoon, there was a spinning wheel held where $200 was raised for the Good Friday Royal Children’s Hospital Appeal.

Saturday was a much hotter day and that resulted on increased numbers on last year for the Any Combination 2 Bowl Triples Competition.

The Monday competition again had strong entries, with 42 players ready to compete however the weather had other plans.

“It was a good weekend,” King said.

“We were a bit disappointed for losing Monday, but you have to take it as it comes.

“At 11am when I did the draw, I thought we would get through.

“Then we got out on the green at 12.30 and they played one end and it just started to drizzle rain and it just kept on going.”

King thanked Swan Hill RSL for their support of the Easter Carnival as well as all the members who had chipped in to make sure that the event would be a success.

The club hosted Barefoot Bowls over the long weekend also with good numbers across the Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights.

The club is now getting ready for their 56th Annual Autumn Carnival which is set to run from May 7-17.

With the greens having a good drop of water and entry numbers looking good, the club is very much hopeful that the carnival can either meet or exceed last years event.
