Swan Hill hopes to kick off new season in style

The Swan Hill Soccer Club season will be in full swing this weekend with the Men’s Division 2 team set to run out on to the pitch for their opening game of the season.

The Men’s team will play in Division 2 of the Bendigo Amateur Soccer League and will take on the Moama-Echuca Border Raiders at Moama on Saturday afternoon.

“We’re hopeful of a win first up, but with that said we really have no idea what the other teams are going to be like this year considering the last two seasons have been adversely affected by Covid,” Coach Tony Di Palma said.

“The boys have been training well and have been doing all the right things, so our preparation couldn’t be better – so our expectations are pretty high, but it all depends on the day.”

It won’t be just the men’s team in action this weekend, with the Swan Hill under 16 boys team also set to play their first match against Golden City in Bendigo on Saturday morning and the Swan Hill women’s team playing Moama-Echuca Border Raiders on Sunday.

With the building of the club’s new pavilion well underway, the mood around the club was positive, according to Di Palma.

“The new pavilion is going to make a huge difference and help our club grow no doubt – but in saying that, so too will the 2023 Women’s World Cup which will be in Australia next year, especially from a female perspective,” Di Palma said.
