CURRENT Australian One champion Anthony Beare will be the driver to beat as the Sonic Speedway roars back into life this weekend with the 2022 State Title for Street Stocks on Saturday and Sunday night.
Beare will be out to defend his Victoria 1 title, with nearly 50 drivers, including former state and national champions, entered for a hot weekend of racing.
Robbie Faux, Jason Duell and Steven Harvey, as well as former Mallee Masters winner Morris Ahearn, will also be competitive.
There will also be bragging rights up for grabs with siblings Melissa and Jamie Critchley competing against each other, along with brothers Wade and Albert Fell and father and son duo Donald and Jye Irving.
A couple of young guns will be looking to make a statement including Tyler Barton and Drew Flatman, who has moved out of the juniors and into his dad’s car.
Paul Domberg is moving from Standards to Street Stocks, while less experienced drivers Shane Ardley, Stephen Brook and David Chilvers will be looking to gain experience, while Zoey Salau and Jack Jordan will be hoping to use their local knowledge and pull off a competitive result.
Support classes for the meeting include the local Formula 500s, where Terry Knowles, Jordan Caddy and Tom Nietvelt will be looking to repeat their strong results from last time out.
Although being classed Junior Formula 500s, the category runs a bigger motor than the local Formula 500 category and all drivers will be keen to impress in their first run at the speedway.
Standard Saloons will be a battle of the locals, with Tom Lambert, Josh Campbell and Claude Pearson sure to be competitive and excite the crowd with some close racing.
Gates open to the public at 1.30pm, with racing set to commence at 5.30pm.
