MURRAY VALLEY PLAYING AREA

THE grand finals of the weekend pennant were played at Swan Hill Bowls Club, Murray Downs won two flags in Divisions 1 and 3 and Racecourse winning two flags also in Divisions 2 and 4.

REGIONAL FINALS FOR PENNANT TEAMS

DIVISION 1 Pennant winners in both midweek and weekend pennant will represent the Murray Valley Playing Area in the Regional Finals.

Midweek pennant will be represented by Racecourse 1, and will play on Saturday, March 26 at Euston.

Murray Downs will represent the Playing Area for Weekend Pennant on Sunday, March 27, also at Euston.

Murray Valley Playing Area has representatives in Regional Sides Championships, these will be played at Moama on April 8-10.

Ladies’ representatives are Lisa Critten (Lake Boga) Danielle Adams (Tooleybuc), Judy Wilson (Lake Boga), Kylie Gardner (Racecourse), Mikaela Evans (Racecourse) and Josie Boyd (Murray Downs).

Local men are Josh Thornton (Murray Downs), Buck Lehmann (Murray Downs) and Lyndon Shadbolt (Swan Hill).

MURRAY DOWNS

SOCIAL bowls winners last week were Teresa Furnell, Noelene Weir and Vicki O’Bree, well done ladies.

Congratulations to our Division 1 and Division 3 Weekend Pennant teams, fantastic to have four teams in the grand finals and great to come away with two wins.

Division 2 and Division 4 were beaten on the day but were very close matches going down by four and three shots respectively, another successful season by Murray Downs bowlers.

SWAN HILL

SATURDAY’S grand finals were a great success as many spectators young and old watched and cheered the bowlers on, many thanks to the workers who helped with afternoon tea.

Congratulations to Murray Downs on winning Division 1 and Racecourse who were too good for us last Tuesday and all the other Division winners, winners are grinners.

Friday Frolic is on today and the jackpot is over $100, names to be in by 2:30pm for a 3pm start.

President’s Day Mixed Fours is on Monday March 14, it has a starting time of 12:30pm.

Single or team entries can be made to Bill King on 0428 324 083 or the Clubhouse by 10am on 5032 1772 and members please bring a plate of cakes or slices for afternoon tea.

All the best to Diane Millsteed who is playing in the finals of the Regional Champion of Champions at 2:30pm at Murray Downs Bowls Club today.

RACECOURSE

THE Racecourse Bowls Club capped off a great season, winning four of the six grand finals on offer, Division 2 and 4 of Saturday pennant, and Division 1 and 2 in the midweek pennant were successful.

A great effort by everyone involved with the club.

The Division 1 midweek side now will play at Euston on Saturday, March 26 in the regional finals.

We hope our success continues as our representatives in the regional finals play at Murray Downs at the weekend.

Our ladies will play in the regional fours finals, as Val Lindsay, Lyndal Taylor, Alannah Taylor and Helen Frame take on the Northern District side.

Mark Snel, Mick Holyoak and John Ford will play in the triples, and Norm Smith and Glenn McIntosh will play in the pairs, Mark Snel and Mikaela Evans will be out to win the mixed pairs.

All these events are knock-out, so winners will progress to the final.

We have three tournaments coming up, our ladies St Pat’s 4s on March 17 and has a 9:30am start.

Our major tournament, the Sun Centre Classic Country Care Triples on March 29 and 30, and Doey’s Meats 2x4x2 Pairs is on Sunday’, March 27.

If you are still in the club events, as pennant is out of the way now, there is no excuse for not playing your matches.

LAKE BOGA

WEDNESDAY Social Bowls winners were Terry Haw, Nola and Richard Bruton and Ted Hyland.

Runners-up were Greg Clifford, Keith Anderson and Amber Moynihan.

On duty next week is Janet Hamill.

On clubhouse duty for the next week is Shirley Swan, Helen and Alex Jobling.

Thursday Barefoot Bowls were won by The Mosquitos, runners-up were The Power of Four.

Thursday Charity Nights will be held on March 24 for Red Cross.

March 31 for Lake Boga Fire Brigade.

MND supporters on April 7 will run the night and they have a barbecue commencing at 6pm.

There will be a general meeting held next Wednesday, March 16 at 7:30pm for all members.
