Students begin school journey in district

THE region’s prep students have settled into their classrooms, met their new teachers and created life-long friendships.

More than 77,500 new preps have started their school journey across the state.

Beverford District Primary School principal Phil Cox said seven new preps commenced this year, compared to just one in 2021.

He said all seven students came from families new to the school.

Nyah District Primary School has nine new preps.

“Our numbers are up at the moment and in total we will have nine new preps starting school this year,” principal Luke Dalton said.

He said that the students were a mix of new families as well as some who already had students attending the school.

“There have been lots of happy smiling faces with both staff and students hoping for an interrupted year,” he said.

Victorian Education Minister James Merlino said the first day of school was a big occasion, even even more so after the past two years.

“I want to wish all students and staff heading to school this year all the very best for an exciting and much less disrupted school year,” he said.

“We’ve done the work to make sure schools are as safe as they can be – so we can keep our school communities protected and ensure that 2022 is a much less disrupted year of learning.”
