Catfish for the lake
OUR Moulamein Bowling Club Sunday Barrel Boys put aside $1000 to restock our town lake with fish.
After a bit of concertation, Jimmy decided that there were plenty of cod and yellers in our lake, but a very small gene pool of catfish.
Catfish are hard to come by.
Thanks to the Narrabri Fish Farm, we now have 1088 extra cat fish in our great Moulamein Lake.
Our Moulamein 200 Club went dollar-for-dollar with our Sunday Barrel Boys and then Jeff Gray come in with another box full.
I thought Jeff was going to stock one of his own dams but he said to put them into our town lake.
I was a bit more selfish and I put my box of catfish into three of my dams.
If they breed, they will be getting put back into our lake in the future, if I live long enough (I’m not dying yet).
I just do not know how long it takes catfish to start breading.

Community planning workshop
THERE was a very well attended meeting in Moulamein this week to help our council develop their Community Strategic Plan.
Unless we tell them what we want and need, they will never know.
There were a lot of good ideas put up on the boards and let’s hope a few of them can get up and going.
Thank you to our Murray River Council for going to the trouble of having these events in the towns of our council.
Wind farm meeting
THERE will be a public meeting about the Kerri Kerri Renewable Energy Project.
This is a very exiting project for our district. It will be located between Moulamein and Balranald.
I have heard there could be 50 or more employed to build this wind farm and maybe up to nine employed to maintain it.
With my fear of heights, I do not think I will apply for the job of greasing the turbines.

There is no need to make an appointment. Just call in anytime during these session times to talk about the project and give your feedback.

I HAVE just gained a new dog about a month ago.
I have had a bit of bad luck recently with dogs and I was getting a bit short on numbers of young working dogs.
I got what I call a COVID dog. No, it’s not one shot and it’s gone, as one tosser asked.
A mate from Melbourne bought a kelpie for his kids. It did not work in the city as this dog has no off switch. Just full on even, more than most kelpies.
He offered it to me and I am a bit short of young dogs at the moment.
Co-Co is only about 11 months old and is going great with the sheep.
I was sitting in my thinking chair in the workshop the other night having a beer, like you do deciding the jobs that are coming up next day.
Co-Co came up for a pat and I talked to her as you do. I said something like, “If we can keep you alive mate, you should be good”.
It was then I realised that if I do keep her alive until the end of her working life, she may outwork me.
Every pup I get from now on could outwork me. Bugger.
Dogs used to be something that came and went.
Now they will be looking at masters like that.
Just thought I would share that with you as it is a whole new world for me.
I just realised that I am older than my bloody dogs.
Bowls
DIVISON one was at home this week to our mates from Lake Boga.
Our rink came out in the game on fire. Smoko put that fire out and we went down.
Kerryn’s rink got up and Graham’s rink was a draw.
One up, one down and a draw. Down overall.
Luckily for us, we now cannot be put out of the four.
We are finally in the finals of division one.
Division four got up on their two rinks and this puts them back in second spot.
Next week is the last of the home and away games before the finals start.
Division one has cemented their spot in the four.
The only difference we may be able to make is to go out with a win against Racecourse.
Division four is away at Lake Boga.
This will be a great bus trip for the last home and away game.
Rice
THERE has been a bit of cold weather this week to worry our rice growers, but not enough to wipe crops out like last year.
It only got down to about 12 degrees for three nights.
This does not do the rice any good. But let’s hope it does not do that much harm.
Most crops are past the danger stage so they should be ok.
The weather has warmed up again, so get your sheds ready, Hooker.
We will overflow them with this wonderful product called rice.
Rice is still king of our region. We only grow it when we have enough water.
There will be plenty grown again next year, Hooker.

They are open 10am until 4pm every Thursday and Friday.

THE Edward is around 3450 megalitres at Moulamein and is dropping very slowly.
Our Eward will start to rise again by the time you read this.
This looks like another good flush, so get your fishing rods out and grab yourself a cod or two.
