DID you know that at Swan Hill District Health there is a Social Support Group Program that has been running social activity groups for the Swan Hill and surrounding communities for many years?
There are a variety of programs from Men’s Shed groups to crafting and painting groups offering something different every day.
Throughout the past two years, older people have been isolated at home and unable to socialise more than ever, now as restrictions begin to ease we are able to restart our group programs again, catching up with our old members and welcoming some new.
Our program provides our community the opportunity to get out of the house, meet new people and participate in fun activities.
An active social life is proven to be essential to overall health and wellbeing and assists in the prevention of isolation, especially during an ongoing pandemic.
Not only is attending a group program beneficial for mental wellbeing, self-esteem and cognitive function, it offers a sense of belonging.
If you are interested in attending one of our social support groups, please contact the team on 5033 9321.
A “My Aged Care Referral” is required to attend, but this can be organised for you during your assessment.
We would love to see more people taking the opportunity to become involved in our social support program.
Members like Ann have plenty of positive things to say about the program.
“I find the art group peaceful,” the local woman said.
“You make friends and it takes your mind off other things.”
Another local Diane also enjoys the activities on offer.
“I like having company and keeping my brain working (with puzzles and quizzes),” she said.
Due to constantly changing COVID-19 guidelines and requirements, it’s hard to keep track of what is the right thing to do depending on a variety of circumstances.
Keep an eye out on the Swan Hill District Health Facebook page for updates as we strive to keep you informed, whilst keeping information as clear and concise as possible.
