MURRAY Downs have a tough task this weekend as they play host to ladder leaders Cohuna Golf as their pursuit of making finals in the inaugural Northern Valley Premier League continues.
Cohuna Golf have been the team to beat this season, winning all nine of their games and are coming off a big win against Kerang, who themselves are also in a strong position to make finals.
Providing that Murray Downs win this bowls contest, which could almost be considered as a David v Goliath matchup, then Murray Downs could come out as a dark horse for the remainder of the season and in finals, too.
Last time these two sides faced, Cohuna Golf won comfortably, winning two rinks and drawing in the third to win 11 points to one.
Murray Downs are also on a winning streak, having won against last-placed side Kerang Golf the previous week and also winning against top-four side Kerang the week before.
In the other matchups this weekend, bottom two sides Racecourse and Kerang Golf face off.
Racecourse are still aiming for finals, but are looking like an outside chance.
Kerang Golf are more playing for pride this weekend, they have been second best all season long and will most likely miss finals.
The last time these two sides faced each other in round 5, Racecourse took the win, winning on two of the three rinks and just managed to get the most shots, with them collecting 71 shots while Kerang Golf had 68 shots.
If Racecourse get a big win against Kerang Golf, then they could still have their foot in the door for finals and will be on the hunt providing Murray Downs slip up in the coming matches.
In the final match up of round 10, Kerang and Barham will be going at it on Kerang’s home green.
Both sides are tied on 61 points respectively, but Barham are coming into this weekend with a three-game winning streak, while Kerang is coming off a two-game losing streak.
When these two sides faced each other in round 5, Kerang ran over the top of them, winning on all three rinks and collecting the most shots to earn all the maximum points available.
But Barham will be coming into this weekend with confidence on their side and will be planning on upsetting the Kerang side to maintain their position for finals.
