Celebrating Colombian charm

DISNEY’S latest gift to audiences tells the story of an extraordinary family, the Madrigals, who live hidden in the mountains of Colombia in a magical house in a charmed place called an Encanto.

The magic of the Encanto has blessed every child in the family with a unique gift from super strength to the power to heal—every child except one, Mirabel voiced by Stephanie Beatriz who plays Rosa Diaz in Brooklyn Nine-Nine.

But when Mirabel discovers that the magic surrounding the Encanto is in danger, she decides that she, the only ordinary Madrigal, might just be her exceptional family’s last hope.

With original songs from Emmy, Grammy and Tony Award-winner Lin-Manuel Miranda, of Hamilton and Moana fame, this musical comedy about a magical Colombian family is set to spread the magic to all who see it.

A stunning auditory and cultural feast, the film was inspired by the people, cultures, music and environments of Colombia’s five main geographic regions: the Andes, the Pacific Coast, the Plains/Grasslands, and the Amazon.

Design-wise, Encanto mirrors aspects of the Cocora Valley in the Andes region, with distinctive wax palms, while the film also features the Spanish dialect specific to Colombia.

This stunning film is brought to you by directors by Byron Howard (Zootropolis, Bolt) and Jared Bush (Zootropolis, Moana), with producers Yvett Merino and Clark Spencer, and based on the screenplay by Bush and American playwright Charise Castro Smith.

The cast of voices includes Stephanie Beatriz, María Cecilia Botero, John Leguizamo, Mauro Castillo, Jessica Darrow, Angie Cepeda, Carolina Gaitán Diane Guerrero, Wilmer Valderrama, Rhenzy Feliz, Ravi Cabot-Conyers and singer-songwriter Adassa.

This animated fantasy adventure is on screens at Swan Hill Showbiz Cinemas now and is sure to charm young and old.
