Little Aths shine on road trip

SWAN Hill Little Athletics Centre is beaming with pride after an extraordinary performance at the 35th Albury Little Athletics Open Day last weekend.

A team of 12 athletes made the trip to Albury and competed against some of the state’s best athletes.

The team returned home with an impressive haul of more than 25 medals and a total of 30 personal best results.

The event is one of the largest on the Little Athletics calendar and brought together more 400 competitors from across Victoria and New South Wales.

Known for its tough competition, the Albury Open Day provided an excellent opportunity for Swan Hill’s young athletes to test their skills on a prestigious stage.

Swan Hill Little Athletics Club president Stephen Colombo said the team rose to the occasion in style.

“From the first event to the last, the team showcased determination, sportsmanship, and a relentless commitment to their club,” he said.

“The medals were a well-deserved reward, but the true highlight was the number of personal bests achieved, demonstrating each athlete’s growth and dedication.

“Parents, spectators and fellow athletes were thrilled to witness the Swan Hill team competing with such determination while building camaraderie, cheering each other on, and celebrating every success.

“The children’s excitement was contagious, with many expressing how much they enjoyed the challenge and thrill of competing against top athletes in such a high-energy environment,” Colombo said.

“They gave it their all in every event, and to see so many personal bests and medals is a true testament to their hard work and dedication.

“We couldn’t be prouder of them.”

Colombo also emphasised the significance of the occasion.

“Albury is one of the biggest and most competitive open days in the state,” he said.

“For our team to perform so well against some of the top athletes from Victoria and New South Wales is a remarkable achievement.

“It’s wonderful to see the kids growing, supporting one another, and representing Swan Hill Little Athletic Centre with such pride.

“This year’s Albury Open Day will be remembered not only for the medals won but also for the memories made and the lessons learned.

“The dedication and spirit shown by these young athletes reflect the strong sense of community and determination that define the Swan Hill Little Athletics Centre.

“As the team returns home, they carry with them the inspiration to reach even greater heights in the future.

” I would like to congratulate all 12 athletes for representing Swan Hill with heart and determination – you’ve done us all incredibly proud.”
