Life of Lucy Dacey in the spotlight

LUCY Dacey’s life of service has been celebrated in a book by Marg Lewis and her writers group, with profits from the book going to the Nyah District Lions Club.

For many years Ms Dacey and her husband were committed to the service club, which also printed the book.

Ms Dacey said she was appreciative of Marg Lewis for writing the book, as it was interesting to see her life in perspective.

“There are many things which you can take for granted in your life,” she said.

“It certainly does make you think of all you’ve done.

“Even thinking about the conditions of today compared to back then – it’s so different!”

Ms Lewis became acquainted through Ms Dacey’s sister first, as they collect dolls.

“I used to live out near Piangil, which is where I met Lucy’s sister, Amy, who had a doll collection,” Ms Lewis said.

“Some years later I became acquainted with Lucy Dacey, who also had a doll collection.

“That’s when I found out that she had an incredible life story, so myself and a small group of writers who meet at the library went out to record interviews.

“From there we made the book.”

Ms Lewis said something she greatly admired about Ms Dacey was that even though she was caring for 11 children, she always made time for others.

“She has done incredible things, not only for the Lions Club internationally and nationally, but also for people in her local community,” Ms Lewis said.

“It was a great endeavour to create this book about her life.”

Ms Dacey has been a member of the Nyah District Action Group, Nyah District Christmas Carnival committee, Riding for the Disabled, the Swan Hill Garden Club and Nyah West Primary School Parents’ Club.
