A TRIPLE header of Twenty20 matches has been rescheduled for Thursday evening after play was abandoned on Saturday due to wet weather.
Swan Hill & District Cricket Association president Greg Cruickshank said the league was determined to look after its sponsors for the McDonald’s T20 competition and ensure the games still went ahead.
Cricketers across the district let out a collective groan as rain continued to fall on Friday, forcing the league to cancel all junior and senior cricket at the weekend, including the showpiece tirple header at the Swan Hill Showgrounds.
But Cruickshank said players and spectators wouldn’t have to wait too long to see some action on the field.
“We’ve rescheduled it in the same way as we have in previous years – it’s a sponsored event and we have to give the value for money back to our sponsors,” the league boss said.
“If we just abandoned the games, then we don’t do the reporting on them and we don’t do the extra bit of advertising that each of those sponsors have paid for.”
All games will start at 5.30pm Thursday, with reigning premiers, the Pizza Kitchen Tigers to host the Autopro Bombers at Woorinen, the WDEA Works Saints to face off against the Phones R Us Blues at the Ken Harrison Reserve and the Stihl Shop Roodogs to travel to Nyah, to take on the Beverford Tavern Demons.
