SWAPPING MAROON FOR BLUE

KERANG have continued building their already impressive playing list for next season, adding exciting Nullawil midfielder Rylee Smith to their team.

Although only 20 years old, Smith comes to the Blues as a two-time senior premiership footballer, having played in the Maroon’s 2018 and 2019 flags in the Golden Rivers Football Netball League.

Smith comes to Kerang, having trained with a number of the Blues players in Bendigo throughout this season and will likely line up on a wing for Kerang, where he can use his pace and skill to exploit his opponents.

It continues the Blues recruiting spree this off-season, having already announced the signings of Sandhurst premiership pair Lachlan Ross and Nick Stagg.

ROBINSON THE TOP BOMBER ONCE AGAIN

WANDELLA club legend Justin Robinson has capped off another fantastic season, taking out the Bombers Seniors Best and Fairest at the weekend.

Robinson, who was assistant coach this season, took out the award with a commanding 101 votes, 22 votes clear of runner up Tim Robinson.

Darren Rushton, in his first season with his new club, finished third with 71 votes, while Sam Taylor and Alex Kirby were tied for fourth with 52 votes a piece.

In the Reserves, Ethan Walker was a runaway winner, polling 53 votes for the season, with Mitchell Southern finishing as Runner Up on 34 votes, while in the Under 17.5’s football, Sam Teasdale was declared the Bombers Best and Fairest for 2021 with 69 votes, 15 ahead of Runner Up Andrew Charles.

In one of the best vote counts of the afternoon, Zoe Gray came out on top to take out Wandella’s A-Grade Netball Best and Fairest on 31 votes, with Jasmine Morris and Phoebe Power finishing as joint Runner Ups on 20 votes each.

QUAMBY RECRUITING SPREE CONTINUES

AFTER finishing season 2021 off in promising fashion, Quambatook are leaving no stone unturned in their pursuit of premiership glory, having announced a further five new recruits last week.

St.Arnaud quartet Jack Tillig, Brady Tillig, Brad Organ and Nick Birthisel have all put pen to paper with the Saints for next season, along with Nyah-Nyah West United rebounding defender Colby Mitchell.

Jack Tillig is the recruit who comes with the biggest wraps, having spent time in the NAB League with both the Bendigo Pioneers and the Greater Western Victoria Rebels and can play a variety of roles, while brother Brady will likely rotate between the midfield and up forward for the Saints.

Brad Organ is another who will add depth to the Quambatook midfield, while Nick Birthisel will provide another key defensive option.
