Millions given for Cancer and Wellness Centre

SWAN Hill District Health (SHDH) recently received $1.2 million in bequest funding from the late Elva Dorothy Piper estate.

SHDH have announced they are developing a Cancer and Wellness Centre in Swan Hill, and the estate’s donation will be used to help establish the Centre, ensuring her legacy is honoured for years to come.

“We are very fortunate and excited to have received this substantial donation and following discussions with Elva’s executor it was confirmed that a focus on improving cancer and wellbeing care and services for the local community would be highly regarded by the family,” chief executive of SHDH Peter Abraham said.

Mr Abraham said a dedicated Cancer and Wellness Centre is needed to provide a welcome and comfortable space and a feeling of mindful escape for cancer patients and their loved ones.

“It gives them somewhere to turn to during an extremely difficult time in their lives, and addresses the shortfall and growing demand for this kind of service within our region.”

Ms Piper sadly passed away in December 2018 after her husband, John, who had passed away a short time prior.

Both Mr and Ms Piper were diagnosed with cancer-related illnesses.

Ms Piper was an employee of SHDH for 25 years in administration and was awarded Life Governorship of SHDH for her dedication and commitment to the healthcare service.

More information on how to donate to the Cancer Care and Wellness Centre can be found via https://www.shdh.org.au/
