The “President’s Cup” team have taken out the 2021 “Swan Hill Wholesalers” Premier League Premiership.
After a very tense battle, last Saturday, with two players from each team, drawn to play together, “President’s Cup” have over-come the winner of the previous four Murray Downs Premier League titles, “The Royal Goat Trackers” by a convincing margin of 13 points (145 to 132).
Mal Woolhouse was the standout player for the President’s Cup team, with an excellent score of 39 points.
He was ably assisted by Rob Merrett with his 37, closely followed by Alan Mason with 35 and the President, himself, Col Hedwards chipping in with 34 points, for the final tally of 145, which, by the way, is the highest team score achieved over the series.
For the “Royal Goat Trackers”, George Sidorow, almost played a lone hand with his score of 36 points.
Graeme Mathiske contributed 34, as did the big “Goat” Tony Ford and Tony Wilson’s 28 points being counted, for their score of 132.
There was a lot of banter, fling around at the BBQ/presentation evening, about non-contributing players, from both sides being sent straight into the 2022 draft.
The presentations, preceded the BBQ, from which the Best & Fairest player was determined, with points being awarded each week, from all matches played.
After all the dust had settled, the Best & Fairest player for the 2021 series was awarded the Geoff “Speedy” Frame, of the “Royal Goat Trackers”, by a very narrow margin from Cath Lang of the “Power On” team.
This was followed by a team of the season “All Stars”, consisting of the highest scoring players for the series.
The team consists of Geoff Frame (Royal Goat Trackers), Cath Lang (Power On), Brian White (MD Mavericks), Col Hedwards (President’s Cup), Mal Woolhouse (President’s Cup), Daniel Cruickshank (Sticky Bandits), Jorgen Leschke (Sticky Bandits), Mick Kiley (President’s Cup), Brenton Cruickshank (Sticky Bandits) & Ian Johansen (MD Mavericks).
So quite obviously, a couple of these players, will NOT, be going into the next seasons draft.
Special thanks must go to Swan Hill Wholesalers (John & Maree Giddings) for their generous sponsorship and too Brian White, for coordinating the series. In the normal Saturday competition, an excellent field of 170 members and guests, took part in a stableford competition.
Our “Toyota man”, Sebastian Parseghian (28), recorded his best score for a very long time, of 41 points, to take out the major prize on offer and division 3 honors.
He was closely followed in this division by Michael Pickert (23) on 39 points. Division 2 was taken out by Jackson Quirk (19) with 38 points, from Dave Hogan (12) on 35 points and in division 1, Mal Woolhouse (10) was the best with 39 points, with Neville Brady (4) the next best with 38 points.

Very good scores were again the order of the day, with the best being “the son of a gun” and one of our up-and-coming juniors in Bailey Bowd (37) on top with 40 points.
He needed every one of his points, as runner-up in his division with 39 points was Matt Harrop (28).
Another one of our promising juniors, in Charlie King (17) was the best in division 2 with 38 points, from Tyrone Parkinson (21) on 37 points, whilst in division 1, the count-back system came into play to separate Ross Kenyon (10) and Andrew Cameron (15), when both players submitted scores of 39 points, with Kenyon coming out on top.
Scores of 35 points and more were required to get a ball, with Sebastian Parseghian & Corey Daniels picking up the 2 NTPs on offer, on holes 11 & 15.
In last Thursday’s competition, 3 players knocked their ball within the magical meter on the 11th hole, to each share a piece of the jackpot available.
Greg Daniels was the closest with 12cm, Graeme Mathiske was at 78cm and Peter Martin hit it to 82cm.
Darryl Domaille almost holed out on the 5th, coming within 4cm of the lifetime achievement. The other 2 NTPs were taken out by Justin Thompson on the 2nd and Ken Gregory on the 15th. Justin Thompson (14) capped off a very good day by recording the day’s best score and division 1 honors with a score of 40 points.
