BULOKE Shire was quietly reintroduced to the Victoria-NSW cross-border bubble on Monday and Mayor Daryl Warren said while the district was grateful, residents still don’t know why they were shut out in the first place.
“And being let back in was done with little fanfare, there was no official media release,” Cr Warren said.
“Thanks for reinstating us, but to be removed in the first place could be seen as more than a bit of a hiccup.
“The exact public health order reasons have never been communicated to us.
“But at least we’re back in business and we have some very happy farmers and contractors.”
Buloke Shire, along with nearby shires such as Loddon and Campaspe, were shut out of the cross-border bubble on September 2 and Cr Warren said some farmers were left in a predicament of having machinery left on the NSW side of the border that they couldn’t use for weeks.
“It’s great to be back in business, to have people get back on with their lives,” Cr Warren said.
“Buloke Shire is back in the bubble – where it should be.”
