Swan Hill Bowls Club reboots.

THE Swan Hill Bowls Club has wasted no time getting its roll on after the Victorian Government’s restrictions on sport were eased, allowing more players onto the greens.

Saturday saw the return of 44 very contented and happy club bowlers, and club president Brian Richardson told The Guardian that it was a joy to see bowlers in such numbers on a beautiful spring day.

“It has been difficult for our iconic local club financially through the course of this health crisis – income has virtually dried up, but our expenditure and overall costs to maintain the greens and facilities have remained the same,” Richardson said.

“We now have to focus on the future and build the club to up again.”

In a very progressive move for the club they have engaged a brand new first season coach, Brian Mansbridge, to ably upskill existing and prospective new members.

Mr Mansbridge, together with new A Grade skipper, Lyndon Shadbolt, are sure to give the club great direction in the post-COVID period.

The club is also in the process of sourcing an apprentice greenkeeper through Mallee Training Services.

The greens are currently being maintained by club volunteers.

In addition to the greens now being filled with people, Richardson said the club were ready to open its doors to those looking to host holiday parties.

“We are putting a call out to the local business and allied health areas to consider coming to the club for their safe, economical and fun corporate Christmas functions,” he said.

“We are ready to look after you and would really appreciate the support at this challenging time.

“We also extend a special invitation to families, their friends and neighbors to come enjoy our club facilities on Friday afternoons from 4pm.

“You can bring your fish and chips and have a try of barefoot bowls.”
