Grants for local projects

SEVEN not-for-profit organisations in Swan Hill have received grants from the Bendigo Bank’s charitable arm, Community Enterprise Foundation.

Grants ranging from $500 to $5000 were awarded in an effort to support the vital work the organisations do within the community.

Swan Hill Community Bank committee members helped hand out the grants.

The program aims to give the organisations the funds to make a difference in the lives of locals, funding a wide variety of projects to improve things from education to social services to health.

Representing the Swan Hill Neighbourhood House was Sarina Kelly, who received the $5000 grant for a new front door.

From the Swan Hill Pony Club, Lisa Cumming collected $1000 to go towards new uniforms for riders.

Nikki Capone collected the grant for the Swan Hill Italian Social Club of $2400 to fund a beautification for their front entrance.

Collecting for the Swan Hill Agricultural Society was Reg Parker and Janette Davison, for $2000 to support the show.

Jim Strugnal represented the Swan Hill Genealogical & Historical Society, which received a $1000 for digitisation of The Guardian from 1988.

Denise Jordan collected a $1679 grant for an upgrade of the IT system at the Swan Hill Toy Library.

The Fight Cancer Foundation Swan Hill branch also received $500 to fund the running of an art show.

Community Enterprise Foundation chief executive David Impey said the program had given $19.1 million to community initiatives last financial year.

“Over $9 million was dedicated to rural and regional community projects,” he said.
