Saint runs fifth in Cup

Swan Hill bred and owned Torrid Saint finished a very respectable sixth against some of the world’s best pacers in Saturday nights Victoria Cup at Lord’s Raceway in Bendigo.

The race was won by the David Aiken trained, Chris Alford driven outsider Max Delight, who made excellent use of the sprint lane to hold off the fast-finishing Triple Eight and favourite King Of Swing, who rounded out the top three.

Torrid Saint, who started from pole, handed up the lead to Max Delight at the start, before being shuffled to three back on the fence when Amazing Dream raced to the front down the back straight for the first time.

From there it was always going to be a difficult ask to win, however Torrid Saint ran home well and put in an extremely encouraging run down the home straight, finishing just three lengths behind the winner and just two lengths off a dual Miracle Mile winner in King Of Swing.

After such an encouraging performance, it would appear that either the Group 2 Geelong Pacing Cup in a fortnight’s time, or the Group 2 Catanach’s 4YO and 5YO Championship at Tabcorp Park in Melton may well be the next assignments for our regions newest star pacer.
